Katie Howes - Director Stylist
Beachlands salon Wed & Fri 9-6 Sat 9-4
Katie purchased Creations in 2013 and several years later Barbara joined her as a business partner. This winning combination has led to a supportive, professional team. Earlier this year the Creations brand expanded with the opening of their 2nd salon in Beachlands, a very proud milestone for Katie and Barbara.
Katie’s passion for the industry started back in 1991 when she left school and began her apprenticeship. Her knowledge and skills have continued to develop over the years and she strongly believes that ongoing education is the key to motivation and inspiration. This in turn benefit’s not only herself, but her clientele and staff.
Along the way Katie has been supported in growing the business by her husband and two daughters.
Katie enjoys the summer months the most, longer evenings means time with her family and friends, while enjoying a game of Touch finished off with glass of wine and an evening barbeque. Winter months are not her favourite, but she manages to pass the time by playing netball (when work allows) and supporting her girls at their games. Now 30 years on in the industry, she still loves to see that confidence in her clients as they walk out of the salon looking and feeling their absolute best!
Steven Au – Senior Stylist
Steven started his hairdressing career in London in the 1980’s and has enjoyed working in the industry ever since.
He joined the Creations team in 2016 and his forte is Cutting and Blow Waving. He also enjoys colour work and perming.
Having emigrated from Malaysia in 1988, Steven now considers himself to be a real Kiwi.
His lovely daughter seems to be growing up way too fast for his liking and when he is not working or spending time with his daughter, he is at his happiest when playing golf and is always keen to take up a golfing challenge.
Wendy – Senior Stylist
Wendy has over 2 decades of experience, and has a huge passion for hair and her clients. After working in many different areas of the hair industry, she still loves working with clients and delivering great service and exceptional hair. She loves to give clients what they want to make them feel great about their hair, whether it is a subtle change or a total transformation. Having clients walk out happy is the best part of her job. Since joining the Creations team she has also taken on the role of training our apprentices which she finds rewarding. Wendy looks forward to helping and assisting you with all your hair needs.
Sue - Receptionist
Sue is the receptionist/ front of house at Creations Hair Design at Cockle Bay. Having been a local business owner for many years she knows the importance of a great client experience and is here to make sure that’s what you receive from the moment you walk through our door. She has worked for Katie and Barb since 2018 and loves her role. She gets to meet and greet all our lovely clients as well as bumping into a few old faces that she has known from the past. With her past knowledge of the industry she can ensure you get the right stylist for your needs when making appointments and helping to ensure that your visit is an enjoyable one. Possibly her biggest challenge in salon is keeping Katie and Barb In check as they just love to squeeze in extra bookings, Sue is always up for that challenge! Sue looks forward to seeing you all soon.
Kat - Assistant
Kat is a Loving Wife and Mother of 2. She is looking forward to starting her apprenticeship in the New Year with the Creations team. You will often see her observing the stylists at work, gaining new skills from them. Kat hopes to be using these skills on her own clients one day. She is certified in waxing, threading, shaping and tinting of eyebrows and eyelashes. But what she is really passionate about is giving a relaxing head massage at the basin.
